IMMERSIVE DOUBLE PROGRAM

At first, Francois Wunschel and Fernando Favier from 1024 architecture will present Quantum, an immersive installation designed specifically for the Satosphere as a numerical singularity provoked by the clash of quark-pixels, the elementary particles also constituting imaginary components of major theories in the fields of physics and the cosmos.

Joanie Lemercier and James Ginzburg, no stranger to immersive setups and architectural projection, will then introduce the spectators to Nimbes : a dystopian universe where a menacing nature and austere monochrome landscapes serve as a backdrop to a battle between light and darkness.

Project supported within the FRIMAS 2014, launched by the Consulat général de France in Québec and Institut français.

François Wunschel (FR)

François is an architect and video programmer, and was an early starter in the visual world, having designed his own arcade game at the tender age of 13! He is one of the co-founders of 1024 architecture, which designs and produces architectural, visual, and light and sound installations as well as performances and interactive stage devices and setups.

Among 1024 architecture creations are the Cube for Etienne de Crécy, the V-Mirror for Vitalic, and more recently the design of his latest show, VTLZR. The company's projects merge architecture, image, sound and light to create devices that blur the frontiers between real and virtual spaces.

Fernando Favier (FR)

Fernando Favier is self-taught, but studied philosophy briefly at university. He then decided to focus on concrete music, attending the Paris Conservatoire. Thinking of music as a fine art, he embarked upon many multimedia collaborations with Vincent Ravalec, Arthur H, Mike Ladd, and finally François Wunschel.

Together with 1024 architecture, they created two performances, “Euphorie” and "Crise". Fernando also participated in the sound design for several of their projects. He is a political activist and the co-founder of “Les insoumis-es” feminist movement, and he attempts to fit political reflections on his century in his artistic work as often as possible.

Joanie Lemercier (FR)

×

French visual artist Joanie Lemercier has a background in graphic design and first began experimenting with video projection as a VJ at clubs and festivals around Europe. Shortly after relocating to Bristol, UK in 2005, he began a series of experiments and studies exploring light and form: projections onto transparent materials, mapping onto 3d objects, stereoscopy, and other investigations into the aesthetic potential of geometry and light.

With three other visual artists from Europe, Joanie created the visual label AntiVJ in 2008 to produce and develop audiovisual projects, installations, architectural mappings and stage design. Projects from the label have since then been presented all over Europe, in Russia, Canada, USA, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, China and New Zealand in venues such as the Centre Pompidou (FR).

James Ginzburg (UK)

×

Emptyset is a Bristol based production project formed in 2005 by James Ginzburg, director of the Multiverse studios and network of labels and the curator and electronic artist Paul Purgas. The project explores the legacy of analogue media, integrating aspects of rhythm, signal processing and spatial recording within the framework of minimalist composition. Their work interrogates the perceptual boundaries between noise and music and the potential for both technology and architecture to embed and codify themselves within sound.

Through collaborations with visual designers they have extended their work to explore the potential interactions between sound and image, reflecting upon structural film and video techniques and addressing the evolving relationship between old and new media.
