Phil Mayer (UK)

Philip Mayer (UK) is a digital artist, a structural engineer and Fulldome fanatic. From a background in 3D animation for broadcast television, he began his career as a performing artist in the early 1990s, as a VJ during the emergence of the Jungle / DnB music scene in England. Together with Ben Stern, he is a co-founder of GaiaNova Ltd, an organisation specialising in the creation and realisation of large-scale moving image artworks for live events. In 2005, he founded Gaiaspace Structures, a design and engineering company that produces geodesic domes for the touring events market.

Combining his passion for pixels and his passion for domes, in 2010 he co-founded Fulldome UK (FDUK), a not-for-profit organisation that aims to celebrate and promote the emerging field of Fulldome art. FDUK holds an annual Fulldome festival, which has been hosted at a number of planetariums across the UK, and in 2013 they took the festival on tour to Kaluga, Russia. As Fulldome artists, Phil and Ben are also participants in the European Mobile Dome Lab (EMDL) project.
